Absolute Liability
Absolute Liability
In law, most offences require that the individual who performed the action both a) did the act, and b) intended to do it. (See Mens Rea and Actus Reus) Absolute liability or strict liability is a term used to describe offences where an individual or company may be held accountable even if there was no intention. The person is absolutely liable, regardless of the circumstances. Examples include parking and speeding tickets and some environmental offences.
