OJEN is dedicated to promoting understanding, education, and dialogue to support a responsive and inclusive justice system.

Objectives

Foster public understanding of the justice system and the challenges it faces.
Support and encourage the values of a public, transparent and accessible justice system through research and education.
Encourage dialogue between justice system participants and the public.
Develop, coordinate, or deliver public legal education information and programs to students and others.

OJEN's Strategic Plan

In order to guide OJEN through the upcoming period of growth, the Board of Directors has undertaken a comprehensive strategic planning process throughout 2008, consulting with stakeholders around the province. Demands for existing programming and the potential for new partnerships and collaborations have reinforced the sentiment of volunteers, students and teachers that OJEN should expand to meet the unmet needs for justice education. The Board of Directors has adopted this Strategic Plan as of January 2009, based on these consultations, a planning retreat, staff input and evaluation of OJEN’s past outreach activities. Action plans and avenues for measuring success and identifying new opportunities will be integrated into OJEN’s programming over the next seven years. This process recognizes both the wealth of local knowledge and expertise of OJEN’s broad base of volunteers, and the new ideas and opportunities that result from OJEN’s positive reputation and unique model for collaboration. OJEN's Strategic Plan

As with any new plan, it is critical to follow through and be accountable for these goals. To facilitate that process, OJEN has worked with Visible Strategies, a company that has made a significant donation of time and hosting costs to allow OJEN to track its growth over the next seven years. One of the most important benefits of this tracking of its growth is the opportunity for OJEN’s partners, volunteers and the public to learn about the scope of OJEN’s activities and to submit feedback and ideas about any of the new initiatives.
